Can Goats Wear Diapers? (Revealed!)

While goats can wear diapers, there’s not really many good reasons to. They shouldn’t be in the house unless for a short period during infancy. Beyond that, there’s really no reason to put a diaper on your goat. They are not house pets and they certainly aren’t children.

Your goats shouldn’t really be wearing diapers, then—whatever the problem is you’re having, there’s a different solution.

Don’t treat your goats like children or even dogs or cats. They aren’t house pets and they should be outside in a pasture.

Let’s look further into this.

Can Goats Wear Diapers?

Can a baby goat wear a diaper?

They can, and this is perhaps the only time when a goat might need to wear a diaper.

Sometimes, you may have to keep new-born kids in the house in the first stages of their infancy.

You may have to bottle feed them for a short period at the start.

In this case, you may want to put diapers on them to keep the house clean.

In this case, though, you’ll need to change them anytime your goat soils it, immediately.

It’s not a way of just leaving your goat to do its business all day.

But in virtually any other situation, there’s no reason to put a diaper on a goat.

If they’re outside, then you’ll just have to accept you’re going to spend time cleaning up poop!

Beyond a short period for some goats in their earliest stages, there’s no reason for a goat to be inside—they are outdoor animals.

So, if you thought a diaper was a solution to keep them inside, it doesn’t matter.

They can’t be kept inside regardless.

Another question is about clothes in general.

Can goats wear baby clothes?

Again, there’s just really no reason to put them in clothes.

You might think it’s cute, but it ultimately gains nothing for the goat except the stress of putting it on.

You might have seen it on the internet and wanted it for your own goats, but you should always put your goat’s wishes before your own.

There’s no utility to goats wearing clothes, except in extremely cold weather.

In which case, you can find specialized jackets for keeping babies warm—not “baby clothes”.

Adult goats shouldn’t need help keeping warm in most environments.

So, again, I’m just trying to stress that while goats physically can wear baby clothes and diapers, there’s just no reason to put them in such things except for our own amusement.

While it’s tempting to dress your pets up like this, just remember it’s nothing but stressful for them.

Now, for the wider question—can we potty train our goats as we can with dogs and cats?

Is it possible to potty train a goat?

The basic answer to this question depends on who you ask.

Some would say it’s possible.

Some would say it isn’t.

From my perspective, again, it doesn’t matter.

There is really no good reason for potty training a goat.

They shouldn’t be living indoors, and if they aren’t why would you want to potty train them?

Goats, again, are not house pets.

This is the only reason you would really be wanting to potty train them.

Some goat owners say they can be trained to use puppy mats, but most are unlikely to stick to this as they mature.

Especially males.

So, no, I don’t think you can potty train goats, and ultimately it’s irrelevant anyway—because you have no reason to do so.

Don’t keep your goats inside.

Can I keep my goat in the house with a diaper?

No, you can’t.

Whether it’s a Boer goat or a pygmy goat, goats are not indoor animals and should not live inside.

Diapers might be a solution to the problem you are having—of their being poop and pee everywhere.

But it doesn’t solve the problem that the goat is having: a cooped-up life indoors.

Your goats will be unhappy, and this will ultimately manifest in the way they behave—keep them outside.

Can goats be housebroken?

No, they can’t, not reliably anyway.

Again, though, even if they could, it wouldn’t matter.

Goats are not supposed to be housebroken, they are not supposed to live indoors, and they will not be happy living indoors.

Not to mention the fact that goats need members of their own species in order to be happy.

So, you would have to have multiple goats living indoors for them to be not completely miserable.

This is more than most of us have space for, and, again, nor something goats should have to put up with.

Do not keep goats inside.

So, while a goat wearing a diaper in itself isn’t a huge worry, it’s more the reasons you would ever have for doing it.

Some hope to keep their goats in the house at all times using a diaper.

You should never do this, no matter what breed of goat you have.

Goats need to be outside in a large area to roam, and never kept inside, with or without a diaper.
