The world of cosmetics and beauty is always reinventing itself with new products and outlandish claims of what it can do for you.
While it’s become something of an instinct to be skeptical of such claims, there are also plainly many benefits to a lot of the products on offer.
One of the rising stars of the world of beauty and cosmetics in recent years has been goat milk soap.
What we love about goat milk soap is that it packs tons of great benefits into a single product—and you only need to try it for yourself to see the results.
Today, we’re going to look at 15 of the biggest benefits of goat milk soap for your body—this wonderful product is just waiting to nurture your skin.
Let’s get started!
Moisturizing
It’s perhaps the simplest and most obvious feature of a skincare product such as this, but it always bears close examination.
Goat milk soap is fantastically and naturally moisturizing for your skin.
It is what’s known as an emollient.
Emollients get immediately absorbed by the skin on contact, and create a barrier to maintaining a softer, smooth, and more supple texture to your skin for longer.
Chemical moisturizers often have a harder time doing so, since they do not create this natural barrier that locks in the moisture.
Goat milk soap is loaded with all sorts of natural proteins which help to keep your skin soft and supple and maintain its moisture levels.
The uniquely creamy character of the soap also penetrates the upper layer of skin with fantastic softness, getting into dried and cracked gaps.
Nourishing
I’ll get into the nuts and bolts of it towards the end of this list, but the other thing about using a food product to make a cosmetic soap is that those nutrients and vitamins are not simply lost.
Goat milk soap is packed with countless healthy vitamins and minerals which are still transferred to your skin when you use it in soap form.
Your surface tissues need nutrients just like the rest of your body does, and while it can get them from your diet, goat milk soap can penetrate through that upper layer to get them directly where they need to be.
Whether it’s the vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, proteins, amino acids, enzymes, antioxidants—your skin will have no shortage of nutritional benefits from goat milk soap.
Soft, supple skin
So far, we’ve mainly been looking at broad-brush benefits of goat milk soap.
Naturally, though, moisturizing and nourishing products are going to have a huge benefit in terms of your skin’s softness.
One of the main reasons for skin drying out is lack of moisture.
As it dries, the upper layers begin to harden and crack to the point of serious discomfort.
Depending on your skin type, you may need to moisturize more or less regularly, but you will need to one way or another.
Keeping soft, supple skin is really only possible by moisturizing.
Goat milk soap is a fantastic way to keep your skin soft and supple.
Not only because of the fact it moisturizes, but also because of its healing and balancing properties as I will get into later.
Slows aging
The idea of slowing, reversing or altering the aging process has been the Holy Grail of the cosmetics industry for years.
This is certainly an area where a lot of dubious and doubtful claims are made.
Certainly, I would make no claims that even goat milk soap can actually actively reverse aging.
However, one of the main causes of the degeneration of aging is the formation of free radicals in the body’s cells.
These free radicals cause oxidative damage in cells over time, which becomes more and more difficult for your body to repair.
Goat milk soap helps slow this process because it is rich in antioxidants.
These antioxidants prevent the formation of free radicals—effectively slowing the process of aging.
Of course, I am simply talking about your skin—it doesn’t keep you young forever!
Goat Milk Soap Can Help With Acne
Perhaps the most common, indeed almost universal, skincare issue that many of us face at some point in our lives—acne.
It’s the scourge of skin at all ages, even though we often think of it as something that is limited to our teen years.
Acne can strike at any time, and can endure for years if untreated.
Again, there are varying degrees of this problem, and I can’t make any promises for your individual skin type.
That said, there is a lot of good evidence that goat milk soap is tougher on acne than a lot of other similar products.
The anti-microbial qualities of the milk are fantastic at preventing the growth of acne, and of removing acne and blemishes that have already formed.
If you have serious issues with acne, goat milk can certainly help, but you’ll need to be consistent with it.
Remember, goat milk soap is a wonderful product, but there are no miracle cures in skincare.
Goat Milk Soap Can Help To Protect You From Skin Cancer
A simple piece of skincare advice that many of us never realize is that our skin, even in cloudy weather, is being constantly bombarded by harmful UV rays.
Many would advise wearing SPF protection every day, no matter the weather, and it’s good advice.
This can protect against skin cancer.
That said, goat milk soap is also rich in a mineral called selenium.
Studies have shown that selenium protects our skin against these rays, too, making goat milk soap another great choice in the fight against skin cancer.
Again, though, don’t forget that consistent use is always the key to success.
Goat Milk Soap Can Help To Repair Damaged Skin
As we’ve seen, then, goat milk soap is not only nourishing, it is also actively repairing, too.
Repairing damaged skin typically involves at least a couple of steps, but goat milk soap can be a fantastic tool in your repertoire.
Compared with other similar products, the higher level of alpha hydroxyl acids in goat milk soap mean that it is able to repair skin at a much faster rate.
This acid removes the dead skin cells from your body and encourages the healthy, rapid growth of fresh ones in their place.
This is just one of many ways, too, that goat milk soap both makes you look and feel younger.
Consistent use of goat milk soap will keep your skin healthy and in a good state of repair.
Maintains pH balance
Again, something many of us often don’t think about when it comes to our skin is the pH balance.
For most of us, this is just something we learned about in school and didn’t much think about after our tests!
But this is actually a really important thing to be aware of when it comes to your skincare routine.
Again, everyone’s skin will have a naturally different level of acidity or alkalinity, so the important thing is that the soap you’re using has a pH balance similar to that of the human average.
Goat milk soap can claim this, as it is rich in a particular fatty acid called caprylic acid.
This lowers the overall pH balance of the soap, allowing your skin to easily absorb the nutrients and benefits from the soap.
Maintaining a healthy pH balance is also great for preventing the attacks of germs.
Relieves inflammation
For those of us with sensitive skin, maintaining nicely comfortable skin can feel like an everyday challenge.
The slightest thing can irritate the skin and cause inflammation and even pain.
Depending on the cause, it can be tough to combat.
Goat milk soap is fantastic at combatting this inflammation when used regularly.
Fat molecules in the milk give the soap excellent anti-inflammatory properties.
Not to mention the lack of chemical additives which is the problem with many chemical-based soaps and moisturizers.
So, if you’re worried about goat milk soap making your skin flare up with inflammation, you should still always test it first, but it’s very unlikely to cause a problem.
Rapid healing of infections
Following on from our last point, goat milk can do a great job of soothing the skin while not carrying the same risks of irritation.
Though it is not strictly anti-bacterial, it does have some antimicrobial properties which can be quite effective in rapidly combatting minor infections.
If you have issues with infections like eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, dermatitis or really any such skin infection, consistent use of goat milk soap can be fantastic in reducing the inflammation as well as helping these infections to heal more rapidly.
Not to hammer home this point, but I do always want to stress the importance of consistent use.
It’s not a miracle cure but a treatment.
Goat Milk Soap Contains Proteins And Fats
So, we’ve looked at the countless benefits that goat milk soap can have for your skin.
Now, let’s get a bit more into the nuts and bolts of it.
Perhaps the best thing about goat milk from a nourishing standpoint is the proteins and fats that it contains.
Naturally occurring proteins, fatty acids, and glycerine are the main causes of its hydrating and moisturizing properties.
These acids and proteins can break straight through to the upper layer of your skin, creating that naturally barrier and providing the skin with the nutrition it needs directly.
Most other chemical soaps cannot boast this, since they contain far fewer natural acids and proteins.
Again, with consistent use, they will keep your skin supple, soft and nourished.
Alpha-hydroxy acids
We touched on these acids earlier in how they can repair damaged skin, but they obviously are beneficial in many other ways, too.
Dead skin cells are often the root cause of skin irritation, and water-based soaps often use harsher chemicals to scrub away dead skin cells.
Over time, this can have an even more damaging effect.
Goat milk soap completely forgoes these harsh chemicals in favor of the naturally high alpha-hydroxy acid content.
This acid allows you to scrub your skin from head to toe without stripping it of its natural oils, but instead complementing them and working with them.
Alpha-hydroxy acids are hard to get in high quantities in water soaps without any chemical additives.
Vitamins
It’s often strange to hear that you should be able to absorb nutrients through your skin using soap.
Indeed, given that in our culture most soaps and cleaning products are water and chemically based, this typically isn’t the case.
Goat milk soap is able to boast all of these amazing properties because it uses as its base a nutritional food product, which we might otherwise consume.
Particularly, goat milk soap is rich in countless healthy vitamins.
Vitamins A, B1, B6, B12, C, D and E are all present in high quantities in goat milk soap.
They play a huge variety of roles in your body and overall health, and when it comes to your skin, they will keep it overall nourished with all the nutrients it needs.
And that’s not all.
Minerals
There are also countless different minerals present in goat milk soap which are infinitely beneficial to your skin.
Some of the most import and significant are the zinc, copper, iron and selenium.
Again, these all serve a variety of different functions—selenium, as we mentioned, working to reduce the damage from UV rays.
All of these minerals are really important to maintaining a good balance in our skin, and, again, they are simply not as abundant in water and chemical soaps.
Goat milk soap is truly unique in that way.
I do just want to say one final time that goat milk soap will certainly work better for some than for others.
While it will be overall to virtually anyone, if you have any very specific skincare needs, it’s possible goat milk soap might not be the right choice.
At the very least, it won’t be the only thing you need.
Hypoallergenic
Finally, there is good reason to believe that goat milk soap is more or less hypoallergenic.
Goat milk is far less documented as producing allergic reactions in those who use it than other, similar products.
This is both in terms of in the diet and as part of the skincare routine.
While it’s still entirely possible that you could have some kind of reaction, it’s extremely rare and unlikely.
If you’ve had allergy problems with similar products in the past, then goat milk may be a gentler option for you.
Even if you are lactose intolerant, this won’t be a problem for using goat milk soap—as long as you don’t try to eat it!
So, as you can see, there is no shortage of benefits to using goat milk soap.
We make no outrageous claims, though, no suggestion that goat milk soap is the only thing you need to have good skin.
Our whole lifestyle influences the health of our skin, and using something like goat milk soap regularly is just one great way of helping your skin maintain its natural sleek and shine.
All this said, everyone’s skin is very different.
Goat milk soap is a fantastic product for the right person, but it isn’t perfect for everyone.
Whenever you’re trying a new skincare product, no matter how tough you think your skin is, you should always try it on a small portion of skin first.
This will avoid any nasty surprises.
